Rob,
I can say it looks better in person, and it's the staffing that makes a great kitchen out of a pretty one.

I should mention that the countertop is just below the window handles. The handles had to be removed for the countertop to be installed.

Another interesting thing about the handles is that they "pop" down to move out of the way. This is where they normally are except when cranking them open. Very nice look.

We ended up going with the etched field blend. The pictures don't do it justice - we are thrilled: http://akitchenremodel.com/?p=369

Hi, I am remodeling m kitchen also!, I have been going nuts looking for a backsplash. I have finally made a decision and it is the etched field blend. My cabinets are exactly the same as yours. My counter is yukon gold which has browns and silver as well as gold. I would love to see pictures of your finished kitchen to see what you decided. Please respond.

Gorgeous cabinets. Where did you buy yours? Sorry if it's posted somewhere that I just haven't seen. We got ours for our remodel from Jason at www.totalkitchenstore.com. He was great, and we're really happy with the result.

It is amazing what the crown does, isn't it? We didn't originally buy any, but later on we decided that we wanted some. It really makes a difference.

Beautiful kitchen!

Our backsplash will be installed this coming Thursday/Friday.

We have chosen <a href="http://akitchenremodel.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/big-1.jpg" rel="nofollow">Soho's Etched Field Blend</a>
<img src="http://akitchenremodel.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/big-1.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" />

Our backsplash is not immediately adjacent to the Silver Galaxy, but instead butts up against the Black Galaxy perimeter surfaces.

We are interested in the same granite - Silver Galazy for our kitchen. It is wonderful to see pictures. Our floor is similiar to yours as well ... you have such good taste.
I'm interested in seeing/knowing what you used as a backsplash.

Who is the manufacturer of the tile. I have only the back-splash left to do after a long kitchen remodel and they are what I have been looking for. I like the Negev Blend. Good luck. Kathleen

I vote for the etched field blend, it looks elegant. It looks like less of a pattern compared to the Negev, the individual tiles look bigger than the Negev sample, (or so it appears) and looks like a splash of color versus a lot of color and pattern. I think it is really pretty, if you have some spares left over, will you do your small room between the dining room and the Grand Kitchen? Good job!

You made excellent choices. Very dramatic. I would have been overwhelmed and taken my designer daughter along for help. Did Jerry make suggestions of leave it up to your decerning eyes? What color are the specks on the perimeter granite? Soon you'll be enjoying all of the decisions you made. Suggestion-call the local paper editor and invite for coffee and cake. Might lead to an additional career! Better yet-"Southern Accents" or a Pennsylvania Magazine. We'd all be extra proud to see it published for all to see!

I followed a link to this wonderful and informative blog from your post on Garden Web's kitchen forum. I just read through all your posts from the beginning and plan on watching your remodel progress. Hopefully, it will motivate me to get rolling as I've been nursing a kitchen remodel for a year and a half and have stalled because two design-build firms I retained for designs did not work out (too much $$ - you can read my tales of woe on GW). Good luck! By the way, I'm in suburban Philadelphia as well!

So many choices....
You asked how we had decided upon our concrete countertops.
I will try to encompass picking a designer or anything for your home in this comment.
The most important thing, is "do your homework". :)
Get passionate about what you might want, exhaust the resources of the internet, and other media, dial into a vision of what you think you want. Flood your brain with pictures, colors, and looks.
This all makes it easier and cheaper in the end.
When you know generally what you want, you can exclude a bunch of things that you don't. It also serves to refine what a "designer" might be doing for you, because you've already designed it a bit in your head. The designer then becomes a "translator" of your wishes into drawings. Designers, especially passionate ones, have lots of great ideas about using space etc. Expertise is what you pay for. You'll know a good one when you meet them, because they inspire trust in your own vision, and theirs .

Alright...
In terms of concrete counters here's some resources from the net.
http://concretejungleonline.com
http://www.buddyrhodes.com
http://www.concretenetwork.com/concrete/countertops/
http://www.concretenetwork.com/photo-gallery/countertops_2/
http://www.concreteexchange.com/gallery.jsp

I do my http://fabslab.wordpress.com (blogsite) about my concrete experience, but that is from the viewpoint of someone getting involved in the business of fabricating them.
I'd suggest finding a local kitchen/bath design showroom that has concrete examples in it. Also a local concrete countertop fabricator.
Go and see/feel what things look like up close. That coupled with any internet samples you see, will give you so great ideas about the possibilities.
Good luck with your project!
